Vertical Text on iOS 5

I tried layout with vertical text on iOS 5. At that time I saw a buggy behavior. It seemed that paragraphs are begun a new line in association with CTFrameRef’s width, not height. CTFrame’s height was ignored. SO I tested to apply the CGRect’s height value to the CGRect’s width. The following figure was the result:

I feel maybe this trouble is a bug. If it is not bug, please would anyone tell me a correct code.

What’s Thinking about Note Applications

I’m regurly using two application on iPad, Noteshelf and UPAD, as a hand-writing note. Noteshelf’s writing sence is very good and user interface’s design is good too. but don’t have a function of text-entry mode. UPAD’s text-entry mode is good useful but the writing sence is a bit bad.

I’m reguraly using two application, SideBooks and UPAD, to read PDF files. SideBooks quickly draws smooth text; after zooming, to move display range to all directional is available by smooth inertial scroll and the view is clear. But SideBooks don’t have a function of writing annotations whereas UPAD has the function. However unfortunately the view UPAD drew is a bit rough.

A primary tool is Noteshelf to write hand-writing note. The secondary is UPAD.

I think UPAD is a great application; UPAD is able to write hand-writing note and able to read PDF and has text-entry mode. All that is left is to up those function’s quality. So I expect UPAD to do those. That’s what’s thinking about note applications.

Happy New Year in 2011!

Updating for the first time in one year :-p Ahhh. I intend to write my blog constantly this year.

I went jogging with Runkeeper Pro. The try was second. A distance I jogged today was 1.4 km because I couldn't jog even 2.8 km and did walking before when I tried it.

Today I remained jogging from the beginning to the ending but other Joggers seem to jog double the distance without compunction. My goal is a far.

Incidentally, when I was seventeen years old, I was able to run 1500m in four minuets and fifty seconds. There was also a time I jogged 15km.

This is my first iPhone Art that I drew with Brushes application. 迎春(geisyun) is a word that would be written with frequency on New Year’s greeting card. Some people of Japanese have a habit of sending the greeting card to friends, family and co-workers at the office at New Year’s Holidays. It’s called nengajo. But in recent years, such persons who send the card tend towards decrease.

My Impression of OmmWriter

I’m writhing this blog using OmmWriter that hides several extraneous objects on desktop from my eyes and makes me concentrate to writing. There are any other similar softwares like this: for example WriteRoom. There are also softwares including this function. They are MacJournal, Scrivener. Great while ago, I had used to write my blog with MacJournal, and recently WriteRoom.

OmmWriter has very beautiful and brisk looks, though the background picture is snowy landscape scene with cloudy. There is not so much as a ray of sunlight. But this is what I think it’s important. This picture is good balance as background one for run on writing. And some background music also are cozy sound. I came to prefer this OmmWriter more than others.

By the way, creating atmosphere for writing is fantastic, but there are some function not enough to control the application for me.

OmmWriter doesn’t have a function to automatically open a document that I was editing the last time.
It is not able to use “Show Spelling and Grammar” menu’s window.
After using Spaces function of OS X, the full screen mode of OmmWriter is been canceled.
I want OmmWriter to keep full screen mode when I look at an another application’s window. After looking the another application’s window, I want to return to a text field on OmmWriter with clicking its the full screen background. I don’t want to see except the application I specified.

I'm afraid that WriteRoom is more user-friendly than OmmWriter. I felt so impression after writing this today’s diary.

It seems that CSI: Miami are spin-off drama from Las Vegas but they require us how to enjoy of quite difference type. I think that Miami is comedy show in a way ^.^ I love CSI: Miami. Brenda Leigh Johnson of The Closer is very cute! I want to watch it again. Dharma and everyone of Friends always made me happy. At the last, about Boston Regal, in the screen, I want Chris Pine to whisper "James T. Kirk" into somebody lady ear with flirtatious grin many a time.

I Will Start Researching IDML Again!

I intended to research into IDML in this year. But I couldn’t keep doing it after some volunteers including myself finished making IDMLWiki to publish documents that was translated into Japanese from English of Adobe’s documents. I have never anything as for the rest of it.

In the beginning I think that I have to know what Adobe's sample code are doing, though the sample ones are Java. I can’t make a program using Java, but I have to do that because there certainly are a lot of prompts there for accessing. It’s downright uncomfortable. Probably selecting Java as sample code’s language is for sharing between Mac OS X and Windows.

Regretting and Thanking

December has come already. It maybe premature to do self-examination but I’m going to do it.

In this year, I hadn’t updated even one entry to my this blog since 4th July. It passed four months quickly. I wanted to write once a month at least, but it’s too late now for regret. This year is just ending. My goal of last year was to write a hundred entries combined “Cross the Sea.” The result of this year seems to be far inferior to one of last year. Even if I break a leg since now, I can never attain the goal. But I’ll forget so that, and break a leg from now :-)

Changing the subject, I’m going to write about what I felt good in this year. There are two things.

My having bought an iPhone 3GS was the most happiness.
An amazing experience was that I spoke of developing auto layout system to an audience of about hundred.

Every day with my iPhone, I’m listening to music, reading my email and novels, browsing web pages, searching dictionaries, writing notes and blog, taking pictures, watching the weather report, and playing games, and all that. All these things is available on an iPhone. How wonderful iPhone is! iPhone is SF of twenty years ago. I’m glad that I got an iPhone after waiting for two years since it was released.

At a seminar I spoke , I had yet other subjects of having to talk, nevertheless my time ran out. I couldn’t control the allocation of time. I felt deeply regret. But after days of the seminar, I found positive impressions on some blogs that were written by some people heard my speech. I was relieved by reading them. I thank all who have expressed their reading on my speaking contents. And special thanks to @YUJI_id for giving me the treasured experience.

The First Year Since Coming Dante at My Home

Today was 3th, July. Even one year ago, Dante came at my home. Before Dante had been called as Helvetica. At first, his name was Newt. The next name was Knute. He has a lot of his names.

Newt -> Knute -> Helvetica -> Bungo -> Pete -> Chibicho -> Dante

Now his name is Dante. In the future, to change from Dante to another different name is never again, perhaps...

His odd-eyes also have been going to be an attractive color but for the matter he has eye mucus at every moment.

Ringtones

I made several ringtones on my iPhone. One of them was “Separate ways” of Journey. This song was ripped from the CD. After setting a start time and an end time on the ripped data of my iTunes, changed the data to ACC file. The time length must not be over 40 seconds. And to rewrite ‘.m4a’ of the extension to ‘.m4r’, made a finder show the newly file using command + R. Then change the extension of the file. Lastly do drag-and-drop the file into a ringtones field on iTunes. I succeed in making ringtones files by this method.

But I couldn’t make ringtone files from some songs I purchased via the iTunes store. I wanted “Baba O'Riley” of The Who. Under normal, only them are supposed to make ringtones. There is also a command to make ringtones on iTunes. An action of necessity is only to select the menu. Why had I failures in the straightforward way?

I got a iPhone 3GS that was the first iPhone for me. My iPhone is 16GB model and white color. A iPod touch of 16GB I had used until now left half free space. So I thought 16GB model was enough space. I don’t have a habit of taking pictures in everyday life, but the iPhone has a camera that is easy to use. So maybe, are going to run out of space. I am having a little of anxiety.

Now, what I’m listening to on my new iPhone is “Dear Friend” of Akina Nakamori. Ten years ago, I had heard this song just one time on TV. I haven’t known the title and lyrics to this song, have rememberd only the melody. I had wanted to listen again for a long time and looked for the song many times. Last Sunday, I found it on iTunes store. The melody makes me feeling happy.

Roses Bloomed

My wife started collecting some roses and decorating an entrance of our home with them a year ago. Some of them have begun to bloom from a few days ago but I couldn’t take a picture of them because it kept on raining until yesterday.

This morning, I have taken a picture in the left side. It seems that branchs of their roses are small amounts. But this year is the first challenge year. I know that she have groomed them every day to exterminate harmful insects and to protect from disease. Thus I’m pleased with the result of her effort.

I had been busy for about a month because of preparing for a new website; it’s the IDMLWiki. The Adobe Systems Inc. doesn’t provide some documents about IDML for Japanese. They are all English documents, therefore we have to translate them. So, we ourselves are translating and writing the text translated in there.

The wiki started with three members. I was worry that there would be nobody to attend the project. But after publishing, we anew got seven members. Thank you, guys!! I’m glad everybody join us.

But still, about half year passed since InDesign CS4 was released, nevertheless I wonder why the amount of IDML’s information, article and notice in even the Internet are very few.

A Trial Run of The Insight

Yesterday I went to a car dealer Honda to look at the Insight and trial run of it.

I was surprised that the engine of Insight stopped whenever I stopped the car cause of red signal at any intersection; the speed of rotation become zero. But when again the car began to run, it’s very smooth. And I started with other cars have a gasoline engine, nevertheless I didn’t have any stress.

I intend buying the INSIGHT as next my car. I had had a Quint Integra of first generation twenty years ago. In fact, I prefer Honda to Toyota.

An iMac or MacBook

I’m using APPLE FW800 G4-1.25GHz*2(DUAL) at home. This machine makes too much noise. I’m startled by the calm living room when I shut down the Mac. I have been using this Mac for about six years. So momentarily I’ll repurchase a new Mac.

But I can't make up my mind to buy which is better an iMac or MacBook. I want a MacBook at heart but examine it with a clear head and it’s needless for me. Because I have never used a Mac at except my home and my work. It means I don’t have a chance to use it as a mobile machine. Of course a MacBook is able to be used anywhere in my house. But in the first place, to carry a private computer in the work is under the ban. I have nowhere to go with my Mac.

I’m not attached G4 but very very well pleased with a cinema display. I think that I’ll use it in the future. Then had I better purchase a MacBook and Mini DisplayPort Adapter, hadn’t I?

I can’t decide which to purchase an iMac or MacBook.

I Have Had Two Staff Members

I had been gone through some times of change of workflow: from FileMaker Pro to MySQL, from plugins made in third party to self-developed system, from QuarkXPress to InDesign, from InDesign Tag to XML. For a long time I had made programs and been doing maintenance of auto publishing system on my own. But I have had two staff members.

One of them, she had been learning AppleScript, Perl, Ruby language since before. A few years ago, when I read a program source she wrote, I was very very frightened because she never used even only one subroutine. In spite of such skill, she finally has had enough skill to support my job. Now She is able to make a application using Ruby on Rails. I think she is a digger. I want to also catch on Cappuccino early.

Another one of them, he joined my company about a half year ago. There was a time I wrote about him on this blog in 2007. It’s this entry. At that time, he interviewed also other companies and my company wasn’t chosen by him. But last year he applied for my company again! I was pleasure to heard that he liked Perl. Now he became a Mac user.

I think we will start cooperation working. That's why I’m making a reference of libraries I made, on MediaWiki on my work. But I don’t quite finish this job.

What Should I Do?

Aleady one week passed since a new year had come, but this entry is the first entry nevertheless. Programming subjects were two entries in my Second Blog. My entries consisted mostly of programming subject since before. All of them are going to be written there. Lessening of my entries on this blog is no mystery.

The Eighty Seventh Entry

Today’s diary is the seventy ninth entry in this year. There are eight days diaries on Cross the Sea that started from December. Amount of my diary entries in English became eighty seven days. I regretted I didn’t attain my goal of three digits in the space of a year. There is lack of thirteen days.

It is only necessary to write entries twice per week to reach three digits but it’s hard. I fully realized I didn’t have enough knowledge, especially I lacks instantaneous force. Next year I wonder if I’ll achieve the same goal as this year.

Benjamin Button

I was interested in a movie “Benjamin Button.” I came to read the original and found the book in Amazon. This book is a short story, has only sixty-four pages. I seem to be able to read it, too. I added it my Shopping Cart.

After doing that I searched Wikipedia for the novel. Then I was surprised that its publication date was 1922. It was eighty years ago and more, A classic... If it‘s a classic, maybe there is the text data in feedbooks.com.

Roses of My Front Door in 2008

It seemed that my wife’s work this year on our garden finished. Our making a rose garden have begun from this spring. She had bought seedlings like very very small to pull in the cost. So, all of some roses we have are young, small and poor yet.

Until now I have shown only picures of my house’s front door. Actually there main garden in the south side of my house. But that place has been bad condition and there is not much sunlight because of neighboring house’s shade. In a word, it's not look good. Unless the garden became comfortable state in own way, I’m not able to update those pictures. When the time comes that they shoot a lot of new stem and leaves and become fullness, I will update a lot of more pictures.

RTM’s iPhone/iPod touch App

I’m using the Remember The Milk habitually as much as that I set the URL to my home page of browser on work. Such the RTM’s iPhone/iPod touch application was released. It isn’t a web application but iPhone OS native.
Though... it’s for Pro users. I don’t have a account of Pro users. Uh... I’m in two minds about getting the account. Anyway, I will not get it and use the app for fifteen days.

Horoscopes

I recently began reading a text book “English Phrasal Verbs in Use.” There is a sentence about horoscopes there as follow up.

Horoscopes are often good places to find everyday, informal phrasal verbs. Read your horoscope regularly in an English newspaper or magazine, even if you don’t believe it, and note down any phrasal verbs.

I don’t believe horoscopes, but it seems to be interesting to read them as one of ways of learning English. At least I think horoscopes are better than blood type-telling that is liked among Japanese. So I looked for a blog tool about horoscopes. A site providing free horoscopes I selected for including in my blog is here.

I sent my request week ago more but haven’t gotten reply yet. Did I typo my e-mail address? Today, I visited the site again and I would send my request, but I couldn’t see a captcha image for Anti SPAM. Does anyone know what's going on?

The MediaWiki

I wanted to use the Template:Languages and Template:Languages/Lang on own MediaWiki. But even if the latest version of MediaWiki was installed, the result wasn’t display correctly. I could see vast amounts of texts in the area. If Template:Languages/Lang is available, some linked texts which don’t have any corresponding language page aren’t displayed. Before then, the result I could see the expression was obviously wrong.

I had searched for a solution for two days and found a way to clear it yesterday. The Template:Languages and Template:Languages/Lang needed the ParserFunctions extension to become available. And I needed to add following one line code to LocalSettings.php.

require_once("$IP/extensions/ParserFunctions/ParserFunctions.php");

This was working. I think that they are special features to easily select a page from a lot of localization ones. But nevertheless why aren’t these features available on default? Even so, I only write Japanese and English. :-p

By the way, external link’s arrow icon also didn’t displayed in which case selecting the CologneBlue as skin. About this, I wrote CSS code in MediaWiki:Cologneblue.css. The code is as follows.

I didn’t understand anything else image’s full path. Anyway, the Mediawiki is very difficult. I can’t casually use it like the Hiki and YukiWiki.

Not Exactly

Hold on a shake. Should I catch on the yesterday’s message as an alert one? When you think about it carefully today,I feel not exactly. That wasn’t the message compiler outputed, was a mere log. CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData function is in CoreFoundation. That doesn't change anything about my understanding. I can’t solve this behavior ^^;

The RegexKit.framework

My development environment shifted the Leopard, and the Xcode’s version became number 3. I changed from the OgreKit to the RegexKit.framework on this occasion. it’s a regular expressions for Objective-C.

Those functionality are provided via various category extensions to common Foundation objects, such as the RegexKit framework additions to NSArray, NSDictionary, NSSet, NSString, and their mutable variants. It seems to be easy to use. I installed and immediately tried it, but ... uh... an alert message appeared.

Tell Me

A trouble was solved that my program didn’t work on Leopard.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a diary as the Perl’s eval command related to the trouble, but it seemed wrong. After all, it didn’t relate to that. The cause of trouble was only AppleScript’s “tell block” syntax.

Why did I think that “tell block” didn’t relate to this problem? Because I knew that a command controls UI as “display dialog” needs to tell the Finder, when using osascript. Of course I had taken action.

By the way, To write “tell application "Finder"” in blind panic is wrong, too. For example, that is POSIX file command. It is in OSAX called “StandardAdditions”, but is not a application. This command will fail in case binding tell-block. So until that time, the command had been naked.

Just, the occasion was in those codes. They needed to bind any object else. So, what was any object? I didn’t find the correct answer, but I came up with using “tell me.” Fortunately, the idea was available a way.

I Finished a Flower Bed

I finished a flower bed at my home. A container has been prepared, and a my next work is to bring soil to the flower bed. On my garden, There are much soil that are nowhere else to go when I dug a ground to build a toll shed. I’ll use them.

Plug-in System Including Osascript Are Not Available

There is a trouble on my work this week. A program in Perl I wrote before doesn’t work on Leopard, but it works on Tiger. I understand where some blocks trouble my program. Those blocks call osascript of shell command, and the blocks including osascript are executed by eval. Other blocks including osascript that aren’t executed by eval are available. In a word, plug-in system including osascript are not available.

My development environment can’t make the shift to Leopard OS until I resolve this trouble.

A New Blog

I’ll start an another blog in Japanese in not more than two months.
To write my blog in Japanese had been stopped by myself, but I changed
my mind. I came to feel writing a blog about my works that is about
DTP operation by program on OS X.

I used to have my blog in Japanese before but have stopped to update
it. It is not the blog’s reactive, but starting as a new blog. I
already choiced a template of the blogger and finished custumizing of
CSS.

Though there is an anxiety that I neglect to updating of my English
diary. I’ll mind it.

Flower Bed

At first I intended to place some planter boxes front of my house. But for bring up roses, it seems they need a deep clod of about forty to fifty centimeters. That’s why I got making a flower bed there the week before last. Those pictures are the processes of my work with my wife up to the present date.

Suddenly My iMac Went Dead

Last Wednesday my iMac on work suddenly went dead. I couldn’t hear boot sound, do P-RAM clear either boot with target-mode. Of course also I couldn’t use an installer DVD of OS X. But the electricity supply wasn’t cut off because an indicator light in right lower on the iMac was turned on.

I suspected the CPU became heat overdrive, so I waited until it was cool down. And yet my iMac didn’t boot up. But I guessed the hard disk didn’t crash. At last, I decided to take out a hard disk from it. It means my iMac was taken apart. I was busy. I couldn't wait until it would be fixed.

Now I’m using another iMac in USB connection with the hard disk I took out.

A Way of Adding Several Tasks with Properties on RTM

I’m using Remember The Milk as To Do List. RTM provides a bookmarklet to quickly add a new task. A time when a new task is added one by one is very useful. But this tool is not available to add several tasks one time. So I prepared an AppleScript for updating a lot of tasks from Excel. That script sends data to RTM via Mail.app.

After inputing information of task into each cell, I select any cell and then make this script runs. Whole a table includes the cell is selected. These data are sent and added to RTM one line by one line.

If I add plural tasks with properties, I have to do that. Perhaps, no one except but that way could add the number of tasks. There is a mail address of RTM that is possible to add tasks as lists but in this way I can’t add some properties.

Rose Flowers in Some Pods

Some rose flowers blossomed at my garden. Almost of these roses are planting in some pods. I can’t show everyone whole of my garden because of poor looking garden. So I updated only some close-up pictures on my gallery of MobileMe. I’m making bed of flowers at a leisurely pace.

Air Sharing

When I read some documents of technical and tutorials on web page, I printed and bound them with a refill note pad. The mischief is that there are pages aren’t able to form paragraphs with the same view. For example, it’s part of program code on this page. I can’t read them at this. To print them as PDF is the same result, too.

I want to read these web page off-line. I’m not use a iPhone, but a iPod touch. And so, I tried to use the Stanza. The Stanza is very useful software to read some texts. But it doesn’t fit to read web pages has some pictures and some text styles. I feel It’s a shame.

Yesterday, I found a very excellent software on the App Store. It is the “Air Sharing.” This application is able to copy some files on my local computer to iPhone/iPod touch and to browse those files on iPhone/iPod touch. I copied some files that was saved by Safari as web archives format to my iPod touch and browsed them. The result made me happy. I’m fully satisfied.

In the Same Breath... I have to say sorry that I gave up to learn SproutCore.

I was shocked when I read this page this morning. Cappuccino is what I’m looking for. Cappuccino is almost similar to Objective-C. After downloading the sample code, I read it and felt it's easy to understand the syntax. It is more easily understandable than SproutCore. Three weeks ago I began to learn SproutCore, but I changed my mind today. Let me rephrase that I’m going to learn Cappuccino never using Japanese reference from today.

I have known 280Slides before. I wonder when this open source was released. But I read Cappuccino Blog and found that day was September 4th, 2008. It was yesterday.

At any rate I’m embarrassed to write like this, because of my yesterday’s journal.

Killing Two Birds with One Stone

I’m challenging to learn SproutCore never using Japanese reference. To make web applications is not my prima’s work. So the challenge is free of care. Even if I can’t master it, I will not become defects. Fortunately, if I can master it, it will be an excellent result. I think that to read only English reference is also practice. This method is killing two birds with one stone. However I guess it’s arduous time until I find my feet. But To learn a new development environment is delightful. So this rule is my challenge.

On the 18th of this month, I tried SproutCore at home. Installing it at work was on Tiger, but at home was on Leopard. It was smooth at this time. So yesterday on the 26th, I tried it at work again. But after running sc-server, I got into a jam. I didn’t write only one character, and yet I couldn’t view even the first page. I did’t understand what is wrong at this time. Isn’t SproutCore available on Tiger? That can't be it.

Early-evening today, I found the cause at last. Merb’s new version was released yesterday; merb 0.9.5. That’s why SproutCore wasn’t able to work. I downgraded both merb and merb-core to 0.9.4. and could see a first window. That’s what Unfortunately.

Installing SproutCore

I would try out the SproutCore that is a JavaScript framework. Also before I tried Ruby on Rails, but after all I did nothing to master it. In this time, I was determined not to come down to that. I’ll try my best ^_^

At first, I tried to install the framework, SproutCore. But it needed RubyGems that OS X doesn’t have it in default environment. Well then, I downloaded rubygems-1.2.0 and ran setup.rb. Uh-oh, The script stopped. What now? .... The installer required Ruby version 1.8.3 later.

After installing Ruby version 1.8.4, I went on install RubyGems 1.2.0. And installing SproutCore was succeed. But when I tried to create a first project of the tutorial, I had an error again.

Could not find RubyGem hoe (>= 1.7.0) (Gem::LoadError)

What? It seemed that the version of gem was not enough to run SproutCore. I guess it’s OK. When a new environment is built, that is the way the cookie crumbles.

Today I tried to mount a server by using AppleScript. There were mounted servers and unmounted ones. I didn’t understand the differences between the success and the failure. I googled the error message in Japanese; “ディスク不特定のオブジェクトが見つかりませんでした.” But There were almost never answers there. So I wanted to search it in English, however didn’t know how to say this Japanese error message in English. If I would get the message in English, I must boot my Mac after changing language environment as English system. That’s a bother. I had to give up ;-(

Curiously, I wrote the code of AppleScript in perl script and executed it, and had got the error message in English. It was accidental. I searched for the word, “Disk some object wasn’t found.”

What a timely article! I found a contents of Today’s Idiom on goenglish.com that is in my concern. So, I begun to read this site lately.

Really, cats are curious animals. My Kitty has interest in everything moving and get into every room opening the door and if there are shopping bags on floor, of course they want to be in there. Once when he messed around with a curtain cord, it winded around his neck, and then he came close to choke.

He likes to nibble electric cords like a cat of the illustration on that page. I saw he was doing that many times and broke up it by the moment. I’m worried about his death from electricity.

Parental Feeling?

It’s four weeks past since when my little cat came my home. His weight became double, about 1000g. Still his body is had on fine soft hair and he doesn’t have his name :-p

He is a hyperactive cat and a little turk. He jumps on a cat is bigger than himself with fearless. So, the first two weeks, Siren gave him a wary look and shunned him. Despite such treatment, the kitty always ran after Siren going away from him. But recently, I realized that if there wasn’t his figure around her, she sometimes looked for him all over the place. I wonder if she was getting parental feeling by any chance.

I could see like that she was playing with the kitty, as much as she didn't want to. I wish they could become friendly.

There are some scripts in a directory “/Library/Scripts/Script Editor Scripts/” to support coding of AppleScript. I didn’t know these utilities until latterly. These scripts are run by context menu and they means sample codes for the Script Editor. I repented that I hadn’t known them for a long time.

I thought it’s good better than pasting scripts by using AppleScript URL Encode. So I began to write utilities that supports writing method I made inside script object.

App Store started on the iTMS. I bought The Wisdom Dictionary to use my iPod Touch as a handy electronic dictionary. Since I bought the iPod Touch, have looked forward to getting a dictionary that is usable on the iPod Touch. I had borne a desire to purchase a gadget I wanted. So I quite felt of contentment.

After did that, I looked around for other useful applications else to study English. Then, I took notice of a document reader called “Stanza.” It’s a free software. “Free” is good better than anything else most of all :-) It seems that the Stanza uses two resources as libraries: Project Gutenberg and Feedbooks. Project Gutenberg is a site like Aozora Bunko of Japan, and I guess Feedbooks is a online novels site like short-stories.

I tried reading “The Time Machine” that was bundled beforehand with downloading. But it’s difficult to read for me.

And my PonyoPonyo’s weight is 760g. PonyoPonyo is this week's name of my cat. Because an atmosphere of the cat is “ponyo ponyo.”

New Kitty Coming Home

I have got a new kitty that his body weight is only 525g. The kitty and Siren lived before are the same sort of cat. They both have fluffy white body hair with a pink nose and pink ears. It seems as if they are parentage.

My wife is mad about growing roses now. She have never had interest in flowers until this year. She said that “I’ll never do some gardening” when we had our house built, too. But over the past four years, she suddenly changed her hobby. For a month, she bought a lot of roses:

Cells Merged in a Longitudinal Direction

Now, the most conscious of problem I have is about to duplicate some rows of a table in the InDesign’s document. The rows have some cells merged in a longitudinal direction. I want to duplicate them with the cells merged, so I tried a command “duplicate” as an argument that was a reference of a range of the rows. But the command wasn’t working to duplicate the rows all together. I was sure that, for adding rows, it seems that I have to make some new rows and copy every content and property of the original rows into the new rows. But the how using “make” and “copy” is very very slow. It is not so hot. Is there anything other way else?

Today, the SoftBank said they will be selling the iPhone later this year. It is long-awaited news. I’m pleased to decide that they sell iPhone because now I’m using a cellular phone of the SoftBank. I frequency use my iPod touch as a web browser and a handy electronic dictionary. So I want a iPhone that is possible to use anywhere without Wi-Fi, but it seems to be expensive. And I wonder how much it costs to connect to the Internet.

XML on the InDesign

In the past year, I made three programs for the InDesign using the XML.

The first step was a test version for me to understand the XML specification on the InDesign. I needed to know how an object of the InDesign correlates with an element of XML. It’s a research work level, just one year ago.

The second step too was a test version. This one aimed to remake a catalog I made before, but there was no order from a client. It was a mere target. A XML this program handles became complexity one because of hoping too much, and too many things I didn't know. I did try and error many times. It was at the end of last year.

The third step was for a real job. I intend to write simply as possible as I can. But elements hierarchy might be too simple in contradiction to the previous job. I couldn’t sight features of XML in the structure and thought the structure was not considered about getting out modified data on a document of InDesign. Anyhow, I was required to make documents by no mistake. So, I chose an easy way. It was just one month ago.

Now, I’m designing one of the fourth step in consideration of some defects in history and a demand for next job. I want to get a comfortable result.

A part of my garden is very poorly drained. I am in trouble with long rain. If it rain hard, the ground quite drains away. Before now, I seared some plants because of the watery soil.

I bought some sort of roses and planted them last week. But soon It rained hardly by a stroke of bad luck. The day after next, they drooped but they don’t die yet. I temporarily moved them to other grounds in a flurry.

Therefore, I think I'm going to make a culvert there. Despite this it seems to rain today, too.

Ordinarily, it seems the osascript command is executed as user “www”. In this case, the command is denied permission.

To clear the problem is very hard for me. I seem to have to compile the suEXEC command personally. I knew it when I read this web page. Things I need to do are to get the source of Apache, and to compile it, and to move the suEXEC command into an applicable directory. I wonder can I do that?

Correction services

A few days ago, a article on my blog was corrected by a native speaker. After I checked the corrected article, I really felt that my English articles must to be corrected by outsiders as many as possible. I say anything but I care little for my wrong English sentences. I want to know those more. I got feeling I must not take a passive attitude and actively know what I don’t understand. But, I can’t ask him, Robert mistakes of all entries on my blog. I can’t make a request to him from me because his action absolutely is the gratuitous doing.

Long before I have known two websites provide correction services. But those are a little expensive or set expiration date for use.

Therefore, I looked for somewhere else I can order corrections within my budget. In the result, I found out only one site. That’s “GRAMLEE”. I tried 1oo words and got a good feeling. But Even if I read the FAQ, there was a thing I didn’t understand, so I would ask the site about it and sent a mail.

I want to ask you that there is a expiration date in the package.
Do I have to finish out it within a time frame limited?

Ugh! My English were almost wrong. . . Exactly, when I wrote this day’s diary, I had anxiety in a muddle. It was poor results. Especially, the last line of the first paragraph. Now I read anew it, and exactly I think it's a stupid sentence. But that was what I guessed. I am bloodied but unbowed.

Before a few days, a native speaker who wrote a comment on my this diary offered a correction to me. Then I took advantage of his kind offer. This correction was done by him. I thank him for that. The definite article and the indefinite article are demon's gate for people of Japanese. After reading some tips and descriptions about them, I had a gut feeling that I understood well. But actually I didn’t digest at all. I can’t catch what “a”, “an” and “the” mean. What is slippery feeling like this?

This text made me aware of image of the definite article and the indefinite article. It’s written from observer's eye as programmer. That’s right. I think so, too. In English, to refer to instance of something is default. In contrast, in Japanese, to refer to class of something is default. English language doesn’t presuppose to mention a class, but a instance. This metaphor is easily to understand for me. I have felt like that English language rejects to mention abstract something.

Still I think, if exceptional handling are just a few, it’s easy. But really, there are many usages. It’s hard to make the right choice.

I intended installing plasterboards before the end of four-day holiday. But the work didn’t end because a problem happened. Several parts of corners didn’t have strength enough to hold a wall as unmoving even if the wall would be pushed strongly. I have spent times to fix up the matter. I couldn’t imagine state of things that course threads screwed into stilts through plasterboards.

And, I planted a nursery of watermelon, eggplant, tomato and seeds of basil.

My tool shed that I myself am building completed to the point of exterior work at the end of the year. Then I interrupted during winter as the off season. But I’ll do interior finish work starting tomorrow. I’ll tile floor cover and get the inside walls up during four-day holiday.

I want to perfect this tool shed before this summer because of Western Turf. Two years ago, Korean Turf planted on my garden was peeled off by me. Afterwards, my garden have be bald patch.

I hated studying when I was at school. Especially mathematics was the worst lesson for me. Derivative, integral, matrix, identical equation, etc. Just what were they? For what purpose do they exist? I absolutely didn’t understand them. Still now, I don’t understand.

Despite a lack of mathematics knowledge, I’m reading a book named “Mathematics-girl”. The author of the book is Hiroshi Yuki. When I began to learn Perl language, I frequently visited his site. I also read his mail magazine. Though I didn’t have a communication between he and I, he was a person like my teacher.

After a long interval, I visited his site again. And then, I have known the book that is in high repute. Without delay, I bought the book on the same day. It was Tuesday last week.

This book made me interest in mathematics. I go to know the world that they are enjoying and want to enjoy mathematics like a puzzle. I am in no mood for studying. At the first temporary, I’ll begin to do middle school textbooks as when I restudied English.

I experienced writing a comment of a blog. A skill that I have is really poor. English sentence I write has a few variation. An example follows:

How do I sort out and write them with the different between these sentences? I don’t know. I can’t write. If I write them both, these results became the same sentences.

About this diary

Why do I virtually never write Japanese on this diary? Today, I’m going to write about it. I wonder if I can send readers words what I’m feeling. I’ll possibly try it.

I’m in situation that don’t require to use English in my life. Even if I can’t do reading, writing, listening and speaking, I’m sure I have no problem.

I’m not attending anywhere, like an English school. And there aren’t friends who are studying English around me. But it means that I don’t have any situation to need to use English. Instead if I used English, maybe everyone would look at me like a ludicrous person. So I think it’s the very least I want to use English in my blog and comments of programs I wrote.

If I was in overseas alone and there wasn’t anyone who I trust, there would be only way to use English to talk somebody, and I wouldn’t be able to use Japanese. I assume I’m in such situation and writing this blog.

How many times will I make a Japanese blog? There are times when I want to write comfortably in Japanese. But If I made a Japanese blog, I wouldn't write this English blog. I guess if I began to use Japanese of even a little, the ratio of Japanese would go on increasing on and on. So I am trying not to write Japanese.

Tantan-men witout niku soboro

Today, I went to work without my lunch box. So I had lunch at a staff canteen. Today’s noodles was tantan-men. When I have it, I bring back to memory a particular chinese restaurant.

This occasion happened at the restaurant that my wife and I had a meal seven or eight years ago. We both ordered tantan-men in the restaurant. The meals were brought on my table, and we began to have them. After a little, I realized that there was no ground meat (niku soboro) on noodles. So, I politely asked a waitress.

“Generally, is there ground meat on noodles of tantan-men? It is showing up on a picture of the menu, too. The meals we ordered are tantan-men, like they are written on this order sheet. Could it be that did you serve other’s order for us?”

And then, she went back to kitchen wearing a troubled look. Shortly she came back to our table with a cook, and he began to explain about this noodles.

“We constantly use our brain because of providing better foods. These noodles are mixed and kneaded ground meat into themselves”

It’s an amazing answer. We lost words because of unexpected answer. We pretended to be satisfied and left the restaurant. But did she and he think we accepted that answer? After we left there, maybe they laughed at us. If words he said was true, I will never go to the restaurant again. I don’t think that I want to eat such noodles. If words he said was false, I will never go to such insulting restaurant. At any rate, I will never go to the restaurant. And I have never gone there again.

My wife and I aren’t angry at them. We sometimes talk about this restaurant and laugh as a joke that is tantan-men witout niku soboro. Of course, the restaurant closed.

Do I have too much coffee?

I like coffee. I wake up at five thirty, first I make a cup of coffee each morning. I study English with having it. After an hour, my wife get out of bed. And then by seven o'clock when I leave home, I have second cup of coffee with watching news programs on TV.

After I come to work, I sit down my desk and boot up a Mac, then I have third cup of coffee with browsing web sites. Afterward I have an additional cup with doing a job . . . Ah, it’s inversion. I do a job with an additional cup. :-) At least I have four cups of coffee in the forenoon. Of course, I have a cup after lunch. It’s fifth. And then, in the afternoon I have about two cups. Totality, I seem to have about seven cups of coffee in a day.

Do I have too much coffee? I don’t think so. Is it not good for health? What do you think?

At first, there was a wrong statement I described but I didn't notice any misake. Because the program worked as expected. A xml document that InDesign exported was rightly processed. However, in reality, another document had spaces in line head to indent was failed.

I wrote as such:

"... preceding-sibling::node()[1] ..."

node() was mistake. In the case of parameter, character of asterisk is correct. It seems that node() contains text nodes, too. If I want to target only element nodes, I must use asterisk in a expression of XPath.

iPod touch

Finally, I bought a iPod touch! I had wavered between it and a handy dictionary for a long time as I wrote in here before, too. Last week, my iPod I was using frequently showed sad iPod icon. It's the reason I decided to buy new iPod.

At first, I tried to prepare to write a note on the iPod touch. Soon I was aware that there is no way to save my notes on it. Some softwares are introduced here saves data on someone’s server. No wonder that’s why they are web application. I hesitated to use them. Then I decided to use my wiki and added a CSS for iPod touch. But when iPod touch isn’t connected to network, I can’t save data. After all, I upgraded iPod software and am going to use memo application added at that moment.

I confirmed that iPod touch has been possible to use LDOCE, but it couldn’t use as popup window. Even so I have been quite comfortable.

Adobe Photoshop Express

Adobe Photoshop Express started. This is a web based product of the most known graphic editor among some desktop applications. I never say both them have the same performance, though I think it has enough functions to be used by amateurs. This software relates to the picasaweb. It’s useful for Blogger users. I immediately got its account. At present, there are no other option but to select U.S. as living area. Even so there is no problem with selecting it.

... After I used this for a minute or two, of course I felt that comfortable using of a desktop application was better than a web based product. But a version of PhotoShop I personally bought last was CS, not CS2. Perhaps I won't buy it in the days ahead. Then maybe I should get use to it.

Some day in the future, I guess .... I wonder a layout software of desktop publishing will become a web based product in common with PhotoShop. It’ll be much less likely to become common because layout software is not popular as much as graphic editor.

There is an empty land beyond the gaze of a cat in this picture. Next my house is blank space. In every morning and early-evening, many people take a dog for a walk and go round there.

In these day, she seems pleased with looking at it through the window. No, although there is nobody, she sits gazing into space.

I put a wooden box underneath the window on the desk. Because she was on a printer before doing that. Such a place was bad condition for her to feel at ease. And I sometimes troubled her to turn it on. Please enjoy gazing dog-walking to the full.

A dictionary lover

I don’t have a handy electronic dictionary. If I had bought it at the start of lerning, I wouldn’t have needed dictionaries as many as four volumes. They are English-English and English-Japanese dictionary. The two dictionaries are at each both of home and work. And what is more, COBUILD is at home, too. I seem to be a dictionary lover. Right, I like reading E-E dictionary.

I don’t think that I don't want a handy electronic dictionary. Of course, I want a gadget. I want one that included Longman. But there is a reason that I haven’t bought one until now. Despite most handy dictionaries have a lot of dictionaries that are rarely used, I needs additional purchase to use Longman dictionary. And that they are expensive. I want iPod touch, too (^^)

Anyone who are reading this blog, do you know “LONGMAN English Lab”? I have an interest in this! This is possible to reverse resolution from Japanese to English. But this gadget is not rested at anywhere. And I couldn’t find any user on Web. Information I found were something like shopping sites. Actually, I want to know about the sense of use. Please tell me about it!

By the way, Is it possible to use LDOCE on iPod touch? Potentially, maybe this way is better.

Imitation plants

There are imitation plants on my desk at work. Really I want real live plants. But I’ll not put ones here. My desk can’t get sunlight all through the day. So even if I decorate on the desk with live plants, perhaps they will die soon.

One of them, showing up at the left of picture was 100 yen. I bought it at Daiso. Considering the cheap prices, it has the look of real plants. And then, another of them was a air freshener that I bought it about ten years ago. It’s a way to use with dropping aromatic oil on the small red pumice soil. I almost haven’t used it as a air freshener, only put it on recently. Even so I have used it for a long time.

I joined the BlogMURA. I don’t have confidence in English sentences I wrote. But perhaps I guess other members who are writing diary in English feel a similar thing. So I decided to join it. My blog is where I practise writing. Even if there are sentence of mistakes in there - well it's no wonder, I’m going to keep writing. Otherwise my English will be better.

By the way, I feel hesitant after reading blogs of other learner because I don’t try to take a test. It’s TOEIC. I mean, I can’t overcome the tension and so I’m escaping it.

PS, I resigned my membership from BlogMURA at November 2009.

Peugeot 1007 or Citroen C3

This year is a time when my car has to have a car inspection a second time. Now I’m having a C3 of Citroen. I intended the next car would be a domestic one. But there was nothing to want. It really bothered me that I need replacement by purchase by June. I wonder what am I going to buy?

About a few months ago, A car in a parking of a shopping center interested me in electric slide doors with both sides, driver’s and passenger’s. It was cool and pretty and compact. I felt that it was a good to do replacement. But the car was Peugeot, was not a domestic car.

While I was wavering, I went to the dealer and have got the estimation last Saturday. It was possible to pay. That day, I got back home with excitedly as if already bought the car. I was stoked.

But next day, I changed of mind. I thought I would keep using my C3 another two years or so. That’s why I was frightened when looked the estimation; trade-in value of C3 was much lower than I guessed. I believed it’s the right decision not to do replacement because of trade-in value as nearly nothing.

paw prints?

Look these pictures! When you look them, what do you bring up the image? I bring up paw prints. My wife found and did the shooting them at the morning on wednesday this week.

As having a clue about the size of them when you compare the something like paw prints to next bricks, these seem to be big. If these were really paw prints, the animal that has these paw prints is pretty big. It’s never a dog and a cat. Was it a tiger or a lion? It was no way! Then, what was it? Who, what did leave the mark? Are these pranks? These are like mystery circles.

Two cats are coming to have feed on my garden every day. But I don’t think they did that. If they had done, I would think they were very very jokester. Then I can’t think a suspicious figure broke into, neither. My wife and I enjoyed delving into the mysteries. But after all, we didn't found answer.

A few days ago, I found a interesting site to learn English, named EnglishClub.com. There are a lot of contents in there. They are such a lot as to hesitate to read where to start: Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading, Writhing and Games etc. So, At first I didn’t carefully read them in particular, but looked around each page as glance.

I seem that it is pleasant for me to read a description of grammar and articles and otherwise in English. Now, I’m reading “Dairy English Lesson” and “English Grammar” every day and trying “Crosswords”, too.

I prefer this site to iKnow. I’m sure to think that iKnow looks nice and the application is usability. But I was bored and was not a delight to learn with it. Of course, I’m going to keep using it to pick up more words. My vocabulary is really very poor. I can’t retain my memory. Each my memory must has been added into a stack of autorelease pools. :-p

Flash of Bright

I finished reading a novel, Flash of Bright. To imagine the situation in which the main character was relatively easy. He was a genetic disease and had known the fact that his own was adopt son because of the disease. But considering he seemed active and jollity as the subject of this novel. This story was never gloomy.

As was always the case, I couldn’t read without dictionary and there were a few difficulty understanding lines for me. But I felt I got good practice to read.

OnMyCommand

I installed a plugin, OnMyCommand to use my own light programs on the context menu. Since before when I search google and online dictionary, I have wanted to input phrases and a word are selected on any different applications without cut & paste. Those function are possible to use AppleScript, but to make these programs for each application is very hard for me. So I despaired of getting it.

Still, I have wanted to get the function! I have just had a choice using the plugin. This plugin helps me add functions. Of course, I have to write a few scripts. Even so the work was getting simply. I’m delightful.

For the meantime I consulted this site to understand a way how to write a command. Thank the site’ owner for the explaining it.

A new story of Fuyumi Ono

Fuyumi Ono released a novel that is side story of The Twelve Kingdoms as a part of anthology: Hisho no tori (丕緒の鳥). She hadn’t published since before six years. It’s a new story in a long time. I want to buy the magazine and to read it anytime soon, but It is not a independent book. Probably I wouldn’t buy it.

When I became a fan of her about the beginning, I read a postface of her book and it surprised me that she was quite fan of Inherit the Stars. It was such an extent that she named her own computer Zorach! There was a time when I wrote the diary about the book in other time. I like this series, too.

Bookmarklets

I wrote several bookmarklets yesterday. They are to search Longman Dictionary of Online for a word on current web page. I wrote a similar script in AppleScript last year but I couldn’t all rights include a script element in already existing page. There were times when the script failed, and succeeded too. At any rate, they were erratic. So this time, I tried to write the scripts as bookmarklet. Well, now I think it worked! Please, look at the last item of side menu.

However I'm a Mac user. I don't know that those scripts are which available or not available on other platforms. I have a little worry.

In double clicking version, I certainly blew off the difference in handling of addEventListener between browsers. Because I don’t have enough skill to make scripts that are available anywhere. Of course I want to solve this problem but I don’t have Windows environment. It’s pity I can’t verify.

To read extensively

This week I read three books. Those books were as follows:

• The Missing Coins (PENG)
• Parallel (Cambridge English Readers)
• The Man from Nowhere (Cambridge English Readers, Level 2)

Everything were extremely easy sentences. I felt short on fun because they’re all too easy. Maybe my language skill is this level to read without effort. Maybe I have no choice to read extensively. But then, I can’t keep reading with interest.

Therefore I searched Amazon for books of level 5 or 6. In the result, I found some interesting ones. I intend to buy those ones next time.

However next month, I’m going to receive a book that I bought on Amazon a few month ago. The name of book is The Twelve Kingdoms 2: Sea of Wind. The original of this story is written in Japanese. I have read it many times. After reading it, I’ll buy the foregoing books.

Not to get used to JavaScript

I haven’t used to write JavaScript yet. I was exhausted to make a web application using Ajax today. I got tired of debugging and wanted to breathe a sigh. I hate my ability to program. I want to be more clever.

I have to prepare for a way to debug more easily. But I wonder what way is better? So, what I want is not a finished program, but a way of process. There aren’t the older members in my work. Even if I try to ask someone it, I can’t do that.

I found a name that is Nicolette Larson on iTunes Store yesterday. iTMS recommended a song, “Lotta Love”, to me as a part of list of JUST FOR YOU. I bought the her song without question. This brings back memories. Old days when I was listening to it, I was eighteen years old. And It reminded me to like drawing illustrations in those day. I used to draw an illustration as listening the song.

Why was this song listed on JUST FOU YOU? Few days ago I bought “Don’t Stop Believin’” of Olivia Newton-John. And “I’d Really Love to See You Tonight” of England Dan & John Ford Coley, too. I guess the reason why is, I did those. Perhaps iTMS listed Golden oldies and showed me.

At any rate, It seems that I like Golden oldies (^.^)

8020 campaign is in only Japan

I go to a dentist for a routine checkup about once a half year. I went to there near my work today. I hope that I keep my own twenty teeth when I become eighty. So far, there are no cavities and no gingivitis. I’m brushing my teeth for about fifteen five minutes as watching TV every night. At first, for twelve minutes I brush without teeth paste. And after, the rest of the time I brush with teeth paste for three minutes.

It seems this 8020 campaign is in only Japan. I searched but this word weren’t in articles on abroad site as the same mean. I guess people overseas are careful about teeth more Japanease. So they don't need such the campaign.

Feature of plugin

Today I learned how to extend a program’s code I wrote in Perl. The way was feature of plugin. I understood to use eval. But I didn’t know how to write it in particular. If it’s only to simply execute a code after reading script files, I could write soon. I thought they aren’t enough scripts. I needed to consult with a sample script. So, I consulted YukiWiki’s PluginManager.pm because I felt the program was no stranger. In the script, I knew UNIVERSAL module.

Dashboard

I bought a reference book to make a Dashboard of Mac. It’s “Programming Dashboard”. I haven't been interested in it until recently. I suddenly thought that I was going to make a tool as Dashboard that helps me to write a diary in English. I think Dashboard is easy. But to make a widgetsplugin is difficult task for me. I don’t know I can make it. So it became a challenge for me.

Moondial

“Moondial” was the most easy novel among paperbacks I have read until today. But at first, when I started reading this story, I didn’t understand what moondial meant. In other word, I didn’t know sundial, too. After sundial appeared in a sentence and I searched a dictionary for it, I became aware sundial is a hi-dokei in Japanese. So, moondial is a tuki-dokei, isn’t it?

But I imagine, I don’t think the clocks are so useful. Because when they are used to show a time, the weather needs to be clear, and that the moon needs to be near full moon as possible. Maybe there are few days to able to use one. Although I wrote that, I think if there was one in my garden, it would be cool that moondial was lighten by bluish white light.

Oh! just I have found. there is moondial on wikipedia!

To change the subject, I don’t like illustrations in this book. Quite honestly I would hate them. I want to erase them if one can. I didn’t enjoy reading because of those illustration. Rather I prefer rough ones as Quentin Blake or Akihiro Yamada.

Full screen mode

MacJournal has full screen mode. The screen doesn’t show any window, menu bar and desktop of OS. Before my eyes, there are only characters I’m typing now. It seems to be old operation system of computer as MS-DOS. But it’s now, the view is looking good because I feel refresh.

I’m writing this diary on the status. It makes me concentrate in doing it. I think that there aren’t temptation to delude me into doing anything else, such as watching site or reading mail. So I’ll use this mood to write a diary after this, too.

Funny story

I’m going to give an introduction to “Phase in Space” of short stories. This is a story I laughed to read story only after I learned English. It’s short and easy. Many young women wearing the sort of fur bikini come on the scene. The leading character is very like “Ataru Moroboshi” of Urusei Yatsura. I feel he is a really genuine man. Only those words, can you imagine the atmosphere, can’t you? (^.^)

I recommend this story to beginners of English who are starting to read a novel in English.

AppleScript and MySQL

Following yesterday, I found a new tip about programming today too. AppleScript can access MySQL with shell command. The code to do that is very simple. They seems perl one-liners. Even if it gets a thousand record at once, there is little stress. I don’t need to prepare anything that are to install or load library files. According to my test, there aren’t problem also using Japanese. It's fascinating!

MacPorts

MacPorts is a management tool to use packages on UNIX. I already knew Fink like it, but today when I would install MySQL 5 in leopard, I knew existence of MacPorts for the first time. I didn’t use Fink because that I didn’t have the confidence to make full use of two environment: default of OS and MacPorts. Really I’ll want to use it to install ImageMagick. But I’m hesitating to install it.

What is “one”?

Today’s my diary is a impression about “A Civilising Influence“ of ”short stories at east of the web”. This story has a few sentences that peoples might feel grotesque. Of course a introduction of this story is written notice of it.

Well, I like stories giving me willies, too. But I have two questions at the first and the end of the story.

Who is “one”? What is “one”? This was what I wondered at first. I felt the word suddenly emerged. I had several readings the introductory part, but I didn’t have an certain understanding. After I kept reading this story until middle part, I thought that apparently “The little one” seemed to be her baby.

A string of red and blue stones that the little one clutched , and a string of transparent blue and red stones that were on the creature's forehead, I don’t understand relation of those two things. They seemed to be different color between a string and a stone. They weren’t the same, were they? What do they mean? I haven’t known it yet.

Never used Romaji

Comments in programming code I wrote are all English. I don’t want to write them in Japanese. Of course not only comments, I’m writing names of variable in it, too. I have never used Romaji. Those are ways to increase time that I plactise writing English. Although, there are times when I find mistakes in those. But I haven’t been troubled by them since now. Because there is a nobody to read my programs except me. :-p

I guess, if an issue occurs when a learner of Japanese as me decides to try to write them in English, it is a thing that is to not get writing comments I have to write.

Practice or Practise

I’m not good at to-infinitival clauses. I'm not able to use it well. Even if I seem to understand when I read text books, but at a later date I try to write a diary and yet I can’t think of any good sentences to write. I have to practise to become good writing.

Huh? According to the LONGMAN Dictionary English, Practise is verb. Then Practice is noun. Then I searched google for these words. And I found this site. There are sentences following;

Slob life

It’s first day of work this year. I finished my holidays. I have gotten enough rest to remove exhaustion.

During the New Year Vacation, I had done nothing for a week. I hardly watched web sites, studied English, read books neither. I sat on a sofa front of a television, and I only watched programs of TV as eating snacks every day. I spend idle time.

So I regret doing that. But I’m feeling resigned too. Because I was very very busy and tired the end of last year. I didn’t want to face even a monitor of a mac I like.

By the way, what did I watch on TV for a week? They were the best 30 of National Geographic and Nodame Cantabile. Now I feel like reading comics of Nodame Cantabile.

Movable Type 4

I installed Movable Type 4 to show blog about a tool shed of my making to the public. I have known the blog tool, but I have no interest in it until I use Vox because I have used P_Blog.

I don’t think P_Blog has a strong function to block spam comments. The blog had been written some spam comments. That was terrible :-< So I want to make it restrict writing comments. In the result, No matter how less I get comments, I ignore that. Originally my blog almost didn’t receive comments.

If sense of use of Movable Type is very good, I might move my English diary to it, too.

Kitchen garden

I’ve planted a seeding of tomato that my mother-in-law gave me. It was very small. If I could harvest tomatoes, I was delighted. But I had given up to do that. I didn’t know cultivation vegetables. I thought what I was able to do was only watering about the most. How do I give fertilizer to the plant and do extermination of harmful insects?

I’ve experienced to grow basil from seed. It is like a weed. Even so I forgot to care about them, basil had swiftly grown. I harvested plenty of basil leaf more than I can eat all summer. Of course, I made Pesto Genovese :-) .....

I have really doubted to grow tomatoes. But, but I have been able to harvest them! Those amount are about fifty pieces until today form when I first got.
